One in a Million!

Posted Pamela Young on 2/15/2015 |

What if every girl knew she had a powerful light within her? And that light ignited confidence… and joy… and a belief that she can achieve anything? Be anything!

At Girls on the Run, we envision a world where all girls know their limitless potential. And more than that, we are working to make that vision a reality.

This is why we are so excited to share that Girls on the Run will serve our one-millionth girl this year! That’s one million girls who have learned that their worth comes from within, that healthy relationships matter and that they can make an impact on the world around them. That’s one million girls who now know that, in life as well in running, big things are possible when you keep moving forward.

Girls today sort through countless messages … about their worth… their image… their abilities. Girls on the Run is about empowering them to be the author of their own story. To find and shine their confidence and joy!

And it is with joy that we announce the One in a Million Campaign to honor our million-girl milestone by celebrating what makes each of us uniquely one in a million.

We invite you to join the celebration!

Here on the Remarkable! blog, we’ll be showcasing women who have made exceptional contributions to empowering girls and women. Stay tuned for a new Q&A with a One in a Million Woman each week from now through June! Up first: iconic sports and social advocate Kathrine Switzer.

With your girl

Because, in the end, it’s all about the girls, here is an “I Am One in a Million” coloring sheet to help the girls in your world express and celebrate their one-in-a-million style!

This million-girl milestone has been a collective effort—starting in a living room in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1996 and growing to include the work of more than 375,000 volunteers in 225 councils from coast to coast. We thank every council, parent, coach, charitable giver and reader of this blog who together have provided the support that made this achievement possible. Like the girls we serve, you are each one in a million!
