Veteran Girls on the Run coach and National Coach Ambassasor, Jill Helmer, is all smiles!

Name: Jill Harris Helmer

Nickname: Mom

Occupation: Leadership Consultant

Location: Emmaus, PA

Age: 48

Who inspires you?

While I love many authors and motivational speakers and the messages they share, it’s every day heroes…the people who get up every day and go to work to make the world a better place…who motivate me. People who find the time to volunteer and give back, while they are raising a family or taking care of an elderly parent. People who see a gap and fill it.  People who inspire you, not because they are trying to do so, but because they can’t help but do so.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?

It is a tossup between Bethany Beach, Delaware and State College, PA.

If you could be any animal, which would you be?

My golden retriever, Bailey, who is loved beyond belief, fed the best food, and entertained for hours by the people she loves.

What’s the last book you read?

I always have multiple books in process. Right now, “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek and “Winter in Paradise” by Elin Hildebrand.

What are you most passionate about?

I am passionate about making this cold world a little warmer, which to me translates into doing whatever I can, wherever I can, whenever I can to make the world better.

What’s your favorite tv show?

My favorite movie has a few contenders, but my hands down favorite tv show of all time….Friday Night Lights!

What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?

My favorite way to give back to the community is through Girls on the Run.  I love coaching a team in an urban school district where the girls benefit so greatly from this program by increasing their self-confidence and proving to themselves they can do something they didn’t believe was possible.  I also enjoy serving as the Vice Chair for the Girls on the Run, Lehigh Valley Steering Committee. I work with a committed and energized group of women on this committee and together, we continually innovate and find ways to raise awareness about our program.

What show(s) are you currently watching?

I am currently loving “A Million Little Things” on ABC.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

As a leadership coach, I work with people for 12 months on a typical coaching engagement. My clients are committed to improving specific behaviors in the course of that year. I am in the process of wrapping up a few of these coaching assignments. It is always a bittersweet time for me as I assess the progress that my clients have made, and I anticipate ending our time together. It reminds me of the end of the GOTR season when we, as coaches, can see the progress that our girls have made. We are incredibly proud as we send them out into the world with this newly discovered confidence, but we would like to hold onto them a bit longer.

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

I would like to swap places with each of my kids for a day, just to see what the world is like through their lens.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

My best meal includes filet, twice baked potatoes, a Caesar salad, and my Mom’s blueberry pie for dessert. Wow, my mouth is watering :).

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would love to go back to Vail, Colorado at Christmas time. My family had the opportunity to do this many years ago and it was magical. I would love to go back.

What’s your hidden talent?

I have none. No kidding. Every talent I have is fully on display, by choice.  Translation: I am not a great cook or seamstress or decorator or singer (although I think I am in my car with the radio playing :))

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

 Purple

What is your favorite family tradition?

We are big on tradition, so this is a tough one. But I think I would say loading our family into a large vehicle and heading to Bethany Beach ever summer.  Our family has grown up there and it is my greatest wish that we will continue going there together with their kids someday.

What is your quote to live by?

Just one?!? I need to pick two:). First, “The sun will rise and we will try again.” And second, “We are all just walking each other home.”
