Gabby and her GOTR girls!
Name: Gabrielle Rossi
Nickname: Gabby, Gabs, Gabster
Occupation: Managing Director, nonprofit
Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Who inspires you?
All the girls I’ve coached over the past seven years! At practice I have three rules: have fun, do your best, and be yourself. Every time my girls come to practice ready to share the most authentic version of themselves, it inspires me to do the same.
Where’s your favorite place in the world?
Sitting at the beach reading a book in Cape Cod, Massachusetts
If you could be any animal, which would you be?
What’s the last book you read?
“Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History” by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
What are you most passionate about?
Female empowerment, random dance parties, youth activism, and cupcakes
What’s your favorite movie?
A League of Their Own
What’s your favorite way to give back to the community?
Volunteering my time and resources as a coach and board member for Girls on the Run NJ East
What show(s) are you currently watching?
The Good Place and Gilmore Girls reruns
What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?
I run The Dream Project, a fundraising organization for young adults that bridges the gap between nonprofits doing great work and young adults who want to give back to the communities around them. In practice that means adventure-based trips (think: biking across the country) to support the mission of charitable organizations. This year I have teams of students biking to Portland, Oregon and Miami Beach, Florida all in the name of food security.
Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
Assuming they don’t have to be alive, I’d love to swap places with Eleanor Roosevelt for the day. Defining the role of a modern First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt paved the way as a savvy politician, diplomat, champion for human rights, and a leader in her own right.
What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
Eating oatmeal and peanut butter cups at 13,000 feet of elevation having just hiked through the night to summit Mount Kilimanjaro with thirty other women
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I can’t pick just one place- sitting on the beach in Tahiti, hiking the El Choro Inca Trail up Machu Picchu, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and driving down the Amalfi Coast.
What’s your hidden talent?
If you ask any of my friends or family members they’ll tell you this is far from being hidden, but I can fall asleep anytime, anywhere.
If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Razzle Dazzle Rose
What is your favorite family tradition?
Curling up on the couch in our pajamas to watch the Charlie Brown holiday specials
What is your quote to live by?
"Do more of what makes you happy."- Carmel McConnell
