At Girls on the Run, we believe girls have the power to change the world – no matter their age! Whether they’re running 5Ks, supporting their teammates or giving back to their communities, each season we see firsthand how girls are capable of extraordinary things.
To celebrate the power of girls, we’ve teamed up with Disney for the new movie A Wrinkle in Time, where teenage girl Meg sets out on a quest to find her missing father and overcomes obstacles and accomplishes extraordinary feats along the way.
Here are just a few of the remarkable GOTR girls who have recently made a positive impact on others by doing the extraordinary:
When it came time for their Community Impact Project, girls at Clear Creek Elementary in Shawnee, Kansas used the opportunity to thank the first responders who keep their community safe. After baking, frosting and decorating 500 cupcakes, the girls invited EMS, police officers and firefighters to their practice for a celebration to express their gratitude.
As a child, Mya was diagnosed with speech and global apraxia and her mother was told she would never walk. Over the years, Mya has overcome many obstacles and is now in her first year at a traditional school. This season, she’s also participating in Girls on the Run and while she is learning she’s also teaching other girls on the team about the importance of empathy and acceptance!
Eleven-year-old GOTR girl Naila will be participating in this year’s Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure in Philadelphia. Naila has participated in the race before with her aunt Irene, who recently passed away after an eight-year battle with breast cancer, but will instead be running in her memory this year. Naila and other GOTR girls will be using the opportunity to support other women and to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Along with Disney, we want every girl to know they are extraordinary – starting with your girl! Click here to get a printable coloring sheet where your girl can share why she is extraordinary. Post a photo of her creation on social media using #GirlsontheRun and #IAmExtraordinary to share!
Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time is available on Digital & Movies Anywhere May 29, and on Blu-ray June 5.
