Remarkable! People

During each Girls on the Run practice, girls are asked to set a lap goal of how many laps they’ll complete that day, slowly but steadily increasing their goal at each practice. With each Ironman event that Girls on the Run Cincinnati SoleMate Jessica Leonard has completed, she has also set goals for herself – first challenging herself to raise $10,000, growing it to $20,000 and eventually totaling $100,000 for her local council. To date, Jessica has completed four Ironmans and raised an astonishing $104,000!

This year, Jessica will be representing Girls on the Run at the 2017 Boston Marathon as a part of Hyland’s Leg Cramps Find Yourself, Find the Finish Line. Jessica was nominated by Girls on the Run Cincinnati to receive one of three bibs that Hyland’s provided to Girls on the Run. Jessica began supporting Girls on the Run as a volunteer, first at a 5K event and then as a coach for four seasons. She currently serves as a board member and chair of the partnership committee for Girls on the Run Cincinnati.

“She is a walking advertisement for Girls on the Run and never misses an opportunity to tell anyone around her about her cause,” says Girls on the Run Cincinnati Community Resource Manager Kathy Jensen. “She has a magnetic and energetic personality and is constantly thinking out-of-the-box as far as fundraising.”

For her first SoleMate fundraiser in 2009, Jessica set a goal of raising $10,000 while training for her first Ironman event in Louisville. After surpassing her goal, she set out to raise $20,000 while preparing for the 2011 Louisville Ironman, a goal she once again reached. Next she aimed for $50,000 and eventually $100,000, raising over $104,000 total!

Along with financial support generated by her fundraisers, Jessica has helped GOTR Cincinnati expand its reach in the community. As a former high school teacher, Jessica decorated her classroom in Girls on the Run colors and photos and inspired her students to become volunteers. Jessica now works as personal trainer and encourages many of her clients and friends to participate in Girls on the Run 5K events.

Later this month, Jessica will represent Girls on the Run and Hyland’s Leg Cramps as she runs in the 2017 Boston Marathon. She continues to inspire many by encouraing people to set ambitious goals for themselves and by raising money to help more girls participate in life-changing Girls on the Run programs!
