Five Ways You Can Support Girls on the Run

In the past 20 years, Girls on the Run has touched the lives of over 1.2 million girls. The impact the program has had wouldn’t be possible without the help of generous supporters who dedicate time, items and funds to help more girls be a part of a team and have a safe space where they can learn more themselves, learn how to treat others with care and have an opportunity to give back to their communities. With the start of the fall season just around the corner, now is a great time to get involved with Girls on the Run in your community and help support the next generation of world changers.

Whether you’re looking for a season-long commitment or wanting to help make the program accessible for all girls, here’s how you can give to the girls in your community:

Coach a team. Girls on the Run teams are led by volunteer coaches who use an easy-to-follow curriculum to teach each lesson. Each coach’s experience is different but one thing that we continually hear is how much coaching impacts volunteers’ lives and serves as a reminder for valuable life lessons that are applicable long past elementary and middle school. Volunteer at an event. If you’re not able to coach an entire season, consider volunteering at a one-day event. Depending on your council, this could be assisting with a fundraising event, helping out in their offices for a few hours or volunteering at the end-of-season 5k event. To get involved, find your local council to reach out to them about opportunities. 

Become a SoleMate. SoleMates, the Girls on the Run charity running program, provides you with the opportunity to give back while you train for your next event. Give back with Charity Miles. Charity Miles is an app that measures how far you walk, run or ride your bicycle and gives funds to a charity of your choice based on the distance that was tracked. Donating to Girls on the Run each time you go for a run can quickly add up! 

Donate. Your donation to Girls on the Run directly impacts the lives of girls. It can provide scholarships for girls who otherwise wouldn’t be able to participate, help pay for coaching bags and snacks for girls during practice and allow councils to grow and expand the program to make it possible for more girls to participate.
