What Makes You One in a Million Contest Winners

Posted Celi Merchant on 6/4/2015 |

In celebration of our One in a Million campaign, we invited our current Girls on the Run participants to answer the question “What makes you one in a million?”  We received hundreds of entries for the contest and were astounded with all of the incredible responses we received. One GOTR girl stated in her entry, “So when you ask me what makes me one in a million give me a bigger paper.”

All of the girls who entered expressed in their own unique way why they are one in a million.  Through drawings, essays, poems, even song lyrics, we learned that our girls are truly embodying our core values and what it means to be a Girl on the Run.

We are excited to announce the 3 winners of the contest. Each winner will receive $250 and the council at which they participate will also receive $250. Click the girls’ names to read their full entries.

Chelsea – Girls on the Run Magee-Womens Hospital (PA)

Chelsea recognized that every person has their own power. Her power cannot be contained by just one superhero, though. She drew three caped super girls to represent what she is good at and likes to do - swimming, school and dance.

Chloe – Girls on the Run of Ottawa & Allegan Counties (MI)

Chloe drew a fantastic sunset and described how the picture represented her. She is “beautiful no matter what” and stands tall like the grass, “not caring what people think.”

Samantha – Girls on the Run of North Central West Virginia

One of the things that makes Samantha unique is that she has bilateral cochlear implants. She melted our hearts when she said they allow her to “hear my mother tell me she loves me, and I can say it back.”
