Anyone who has been to a Girls on the Run 5K knows that it is unlike any other running event. First and foremost, it is a celebration of and for the girls who are completing a three month season of Girls on the Run programming. By the day of the 5K, their enthusiasm is so unbridled that they are running around before the race! Positive energy abounds as the girls dance to warm-up music, get their hair “happied” and their faces painted, and gather with their teammates to hold hands as they head to the starting line.
We believe that accomplishment comes in all flavors and that everyone who participates - whether they run, walk, hop, skip or cartwheel across the finish line – is to be honored and congratulated. Therefore, Girls on the Run 5Ks are non-competitive events for our girls. The 5Ks celebrate a season of learning about the importance of taking care of our emotional and physical healthand truly embody our mission of inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy and confident! As the culminating event of the Girls on the Run curriculum, it is a moment in time that beautifully reflects the very essence of the program goals.
